There is a reason why so many recently-hitched couples have their hearts and sights set on Greece. In fact, there are many. Greece is a country with many sides that, when put together, offer the perfect destination for a honeymoon.

Whether you are looking to discover ancient historical sites, get lost down the cobbled backstreets of Athens, or check into a luxurious 5-star on the shores of Santorini, it is all possible in Greece.

This article has been put together to show off Greece and all its romantic sides. The weather, the wine, the beaches – it’s all delectable in this gorgeously sun-kissed country surrounded by the sea.

Is Greece A Good Destination For A Honeymoon?

Greece isn’t just a good destination for a honeymoon, it’s a great one. In fact, we would even go as far as to say that it sits atop of the “best honeymoon destinations in the world” pile.

Known for stunning views, post-card-worthy beaches, insanely good food, and some of the most high-end resorts in the world, it is an easy thing to find romance in Greece. Below we have put together a few of Greece’s best attributes, for you, to delight in.

1. Romance

Greece is a country tailor-made for romance. The Aegean archipelago spans the entire Aegean Sea and is made up of over 6,000 islands that are all Greek. One of the most iconic Greek Islands “Santorini” has consistently topped “most romantic places in the world” lists for more years than you would care to count.

Its coastline is made up of tight coves, wide bays, and white-sand beaches and is surrounded by some of the most picturesque waters you have ever seen. Known for their whitewashed walls and blue roofs, seaside towns like Oia are stunning destinations for a honeymoon.

2. The Weather

Greece is visited by millions of tourists every year for multiple reasons, sure, but the weather dominates them all. Revered for its reliable Meditteranean climate, Greece benefits from more sunshine than most places.

Honeymoon in Greece between the months of June and October and you may just forget what a cloud even looks like. One disclaimer about Greece in the summertime is that it is also hot and humid. In the peak summer months (July and August) expect the mercury to reach at least 82°F, with 86°F days not uncommon.

For some honeymooners, this is music to their sun-screened ears. For others, however, this kind of heat isn’t exactly what the sun doctor is ordering. For those couples, we have a solution. Greece in the Fall is often subject to just as much sunshine as summer, just with slightly milder temperatures.

If temperatures that hover around 80°F are more to your taste, September and October are your preferred time of year in Greece. As you can see, whether you are someone who revels in the heat or likes to keep your sweat patches to a minimum, Greece’s climate has got you.

3. The Cuisine

Good food and better wine are two tried, tested, and tried again ingredients that equate to a romantic time. Greek cuisine champions lean meats, summer vegetables, and fresh herbs, and they also go very big on their olive oil portioning.

From mainland cities to island towns, there is a big emphasis on dining alfresco in Greece. This push for dining outdoors often means you will be sitting opposite your special someone with a romantic view to boot.

Another thing that they are proud of in Greece is their wine. Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and it is also home to the most vineyards. This makes it a particularly good one for wine-lovers keen to sample the island’s fermented fruits while dining alfresco by the seaside. One of the best restaurants in Crete to wine and dine in style is Pelagos down on Coriva Beach.

4. The Nightlife

Whether you’re digging your newly-married heels into a night out in Athens or living it up on the island of Mykonos, Greece has an insatiable thirst to party. Mykonos, in particular, is known as the party island of Greece. World-renowned DJs take up summer residencies in the thumping nightclubs down on Paradise Beach and partygoers flock there to party until the sun comes up.

All-night parties may not be high on every couple’s honeymoon itinerary, but no doubt it will tickle the fancy of a few. The beauty of a honeymoon on Mykonos, however, is that you are gifted the best of both worlds. Go wild for a night of clubbing and then retreat back to your luxury oceanfront villa for a few days of relaxation and romance.

One resort that is primed to offer you this two-world style of honeymoon is the 5-star haven –  Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort. Located atop the angelic sands of Agios Ioannis Beach, Mykonos Grand offers prestigious seaside suites designed for honeymooning in luxury.

5. The Resorts

As we mentioned, islands like Santorini and Mykonos are home to some of the most jaw-dropping resorts in the world. Whether that be down at the seafront or perched on a private hilltop, the amount of luxury five-star resorts that call a Greek Island home is very impressive.

On Santorini, for your honeymoon, it’s all about a stay in an uber-exclusive boutique hotel, for which Canaves Oia and Mystique are two. These chic hotels know exactly how to tailor their experience to wow your honeymooning socks right off. Turn-down services, complimentary bottles of bubbly, and romantic dining experiences are a few of the ways they put guests in a state of pure romance.

Conclusion

Greece is a country that is in the business of gifting couples their dream honeymoon. The sheer beauty that can be experienced around every corner in Greece is both awe-inspiring and romance-making.

Whether you want to hide away in a private villa or check into exactly where the action is, Greece has got all bases covered. That’s the beauty of this Meditteranean powerhouse, it has something for everyone. We hope this article has been inspiring enough to give you a little nudge toward your magical Greek honeymoon – it won’t be forgotten.
